The Justice Department filed a lawsuit last month against Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center PC which operates 24 facilities in the state of Arizona. The optometry and ophthalmology provider is alleged to have discriminated against patients who were unable to transfer to a surgical table without assistance due to their disabilities. The practice required these patients to pay to hire a third party assistant to assist in transport to and from the facilities and in transfer from wheelchair to surgical table for treatment. This is something that medical facilities should usually provide for patients who require it.
